OK. So Day 1. It is official!
I am in the ML Center beginning to work the piles of computers and setting up the ML Center for public use.
My intention is to keep a running log of the work accomplished and completed each day, so that three months down the road, when I wonder what the heck I have done, I (and other interested parties) can readily see the progress being made.
Today:
Rebuild the OS of a DELL Dimension 3000 (donated by clientele of Computer Genie). This means that we wipe out the hard drive and start over, reloading all drivers and preparing the computer for its purpose. This machine will be the MEDIA CENTER computer: this computer will be connected to a stereo receiver, cassette player and turntable, as well as, a VCR.
The purpose of this workstation will be to teach students how to work with media files of all types: converting albums and cassettes to digital music, thereby perserving the original files and producing a digital format universal to current digital players (i.e. iPod, etc.)
This particular computer is equipped with a SONY DVD-rom and a Philips DVD-ram. Able to burn CDs, eventually, this computer will also be used to convert VHS tape footage to DVD media.
Computer Specs:
DELL Dimension 3000. Windows XP Home Edition.
80G Hard drive separated into two partitions (c: for system and program files, d: for data and music files)
512Mb RAM/memory (this will need to be upgraded at a cost of $ 77.98 + free shipping)

Estimates for Work Needed
Work Needed: Estimates Requested
- Electrical Work - Our 20' x 20' space needs plenty of electrical outlets.
- Carpentry - There are several custom cabinet pieces we need, as well as, closed storage solutions throughout the room.
- Security - Our computer assets need protecting. Looking for an alarm system w/ monitoring service and camera remote access to be available.
The learning center will be available for onsite inspection before the bidding begins.

Welcome to the Midtown Learning Center!
Midtown Learning Center is:
- an all-access computer learning lab located in (Hanahan) North Charleston, SC.
Midtown Learning Center exists to teach people of all ages all aspects of computer learning and practical usage to stimulate personal growth and educational advancement. It is our hope that individuals will learn the skills to excel in their chosen field and produce personal wealth as a natural result of discovering career-purpose and "doing what you were meant to do".
A six-workstation Linux computer lab has been built from Recycled and Donated computer equipment through the clientele of Computer Genie.
15-year old networking student at James Island Charter, Anthony Cargile, began developing the network almost two years ago. It is now ready to share with our community.
Currently, we teach software applications and basic computer skills.
Coming Soon: We will soon be offering English as a Second Language (ESL).
Join The Vision:
-- To educate South Carolinians in the ways of the computer industry and raise up a technological and creative people:
--To excel in the study of our English language through the technology and to use the technology to express ourselves through the Arts.
--To equip the business-minded people with the computer skills to compete in the worldwide market.
--To mentor students and help them identify their individual career goals and interests.
We are looking for volunteers to join in the cause.
-- IT-capable volunteers to help with the network.
-- Nice people persons that are willing to share their basic software knowledge and assist during class.
-- College Intern with an interest in Marketing or Missions to help propel the vision.
